Honda Celebrates 20 Millionth US-Built Car

As many automakers move production out of North America, Honda is touting the amount of cars the company has built in the U.S.

The Japanese brand began building cars in Marysville, Ohio in 1982, and has since produced 10 million Accords. When combined with Honda’s three other US production facilities, located in East Liberty, Ohio, Lincoln, Ala., and Greensburg, Ind., a total of 20 million vehicles have been produced by the Japanese brand on American soil.

In 2013 alone, all of Honda’s plants combined produced 1,309,917 vehicles, a 7.4 percent increase over what was built in 2012. Eleven different models are produced in the U.S. at the four plants, while three separate Honda facilities produce engines and transmissions. Since those factories opened, 23.77 million automobile engines and 18.64 million transmissions have been built by Honda in the United States.

Honda isn’t stopping there either, having already started construction of a fifth facility in Marysville that will exclusively build the Acura NSX.
